Don’t buy this cylce computer

CATEYE Vectra CC-VT100W, originally uploaded by mozealou.

For some reason the folks at Performance Bicycle push this hunk of junk on everyone. I was sold it originally, and now I have 3 friends who have a similar experience.

Here is the typical exchange:
[Performance Shopper] – Hi, I am looking to get a computer for my bike. Can you help me?
[Performance Employee] – Yes, sure, what is it that you were looking for?
[Performance Shopper] – I don’t know much about computers, I just want basic functions like, current speed, average speed, max speed, etc.
[Performance Employee] – Here you go, this one is nice and easy to install (they hand you the CC-VT100W).
[Performance Shopper] – Great! Here is my 35$.

…Several hours later (or on first ride)….
[Performance Shopper] – Fuck. This thing sucks. I thought this thing told average speed?

I am not sure why, maybe Performance Employee’s get a high commission on this thing or something, but nearly every new rider I know has bought this computer because Performance has told them this is the computer they want.

Reasons why this computer sucks:
1. It doesn’t have average speed. You might not think this is a big deal, but as someone who has ridden a bit, average speed is more important than current speed. I rarely look down to find out my current speed, but always wonder at the end of the ride what my average speed was.
2. It is costly for its feature set. It doesn’t have nearly the features of other computers, but costs more.
3. It doesn’t like stoplights. The trip high speed is almost never right. This mainly happens because it doesn’t do error correction when you are sitting at a stoplight and the magnet goes past the sensor, so inevitably your high speed will read speeds that would allow you to travel time.
4. The thing is freaking ugly. I bought a computer over 10 years ago for my bike that had a cool translucent cover and was made by Cateye. Why did they switch back to a ugly black cover with a goofy looking button?

So seriously, don’t buy this ugly looking computer. It sucks.

March Mustache and Miniskirt Party for MS is a success

Mustache Madness, originally uploaded by mozealou.

The March Mustache and Miniskirt Party for MS at Bub’s Dive Bar this past weekend was a huge success.

Thanks to Bub’s (who donated $100) and the kind donations of the patrons at Bub’s, we raised over $275 for the San Diego Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis society.

The party was pretty epic as you can tell by the picture. Those pictured are me (dressed as Magnum P.I.), Rob Fitch, and Christopher Wakefield (Team Climb On member). Over 21 awards were handed out including awards for Best Mustache, the Kentucky Dirt Lip, and shortest mini-skirt.

It was a great time, and thanks to all that participated. It was truly a great event.
