To Jamestown again, originally uploaded by mozealou.
Road to Jamestown again today. About 27 hilly miles. This is the
view from the top.
Finally met a riding buddy yesterday. Steve and I rode 24 miles and
averaged 20 mph. He is very fast.
These mailboxes mark the top of Old Stage. Roughly an altitude of
6204ft.
Ran into bambi on my way up Old Stage Road which is a lung burner of
a hill in Boulder.
I just installed the WPtouch Wordpress plugin on my blog which optimizes my blog for the iPhone. I use wordpress as my blogging software.
Now all you people who follow my blog can do so easier on an iPhone.
The 20th annual Veloswap is coming to October 25th, mark your calendars.
I have heard nothing but great things about this event, and it is supposedly a great place to get a good deal on a bike, and biking gear.
VeloSwap is the world’s largest consumer bicycle and sports expo. It is THE place to see, swap, buy, and sell every imaginable bike, part, and accessory.
This cultural cycling happening is a not-to-be-missed experience. It is the place to feel the pulse of the cycling community and rub elbows with like minded cyclists.
This has nothing to do with riding…it’s just a really cool story.
Was waiting for my cousin outside the Broncos stadium wearing my number 77 jersey and none other than Karl Mecklenburg himself comes up to me and says “nice jersey, I’ve got to sign it.”
Check out me and the Albino Rhino.
So yesterday I went out for my longest ride of the season (70+ miles) and was going to ride to Estes Park from my house in Boulder. Round trip this route should be 72 miles if you go the easy way via US 36. There is minimal elevation gain, so the route should have been pretty easy.
About 4 miles into the ride I stopped and took a photo of the sign to Estes Park and added the photo to my blog.
Well, about 17 miles into the ride, I am in Lyons, CO and keep heading out on US 36 toward Estes Park. I think it is a little odd that there are lots of bikers out, but none of them seem to be heading the direction I am, but I keep going. After about a mile I see a sign that says “Bike Lane Ends,” and I get a little worried, I have ridden on roads without bike lanes, but US 36 is a highway, and the road to Estes Park is a narrow curvey road. I ride for about another mile before I realize how bad it is going to suck to deal with no bike lane for another 20 miles, and decide to take an alternate route. I stopped, and took a photo of the new route at that point. The photo kinda sucks, but I wanted to give Erika (my girlfriend) a heads up that I was changing plans as she often reads my blog. The new route that I was going to take was a ride up Colorado Highway 7. Colorado Highway 7 also does not have a bike lane, but it has a bigger shoulder, less traffic, and is way more biker friendly. It too goes out to Estes Park, but the route is about 17 miles longer than the planned route, which round trip would have added 34 more miles to the trip. I also had heard the route was a little more hilly than the other route, and boy was it. It had about 15 miles of continuous uphill, and I reached a max elevation of about 8200ft. I didn’t make it out to Estes, but the entire trip ended up being 70 miles, which is the second longest ride I have ever done (behind last years MS 150), and I feel great today.
Ok, this post is already too long, so here are the photos, with some narrative.
Click the photo to see the original. It is posted on Flickr, and the photos are GeoTagged, so you can see exactly where it was taken.
Big horn sheep chillin’ in St. Vrain Canyon

Sign to Peaceful Valley. Figured I could use this photo to figure out where I ended up going later.
This is the view from the highest point on the ride. In the distance you can see Long’s Peak. I turned around here because there was what looked like a 4 mile down hill, and after riding 16 miles of uphill, I didn’t want to have to do another 4 miles of uphill (at 8 mph) in another 15 minutes, so I headed back after taking this photo.
This is one of the 2 “Fruit Loops” of Lyons. Not sure why it is called that. I rode them both during the ride.

This is a view from the top of Old Stage Road in Boulder. I went over Old Stage Road to throw in a little extra distance, and add a bonus hill. The hill was much more difficult than I thought, but I had also ridden about 62 miles up to this point.
And route map:
What a day…
No bike lane on 36 hwy past Lyons. Going CR7.
In proving that Team Climb On is more than just about riding, and actually making a stand to help those with MS, Mark volunteered for the WALK MS this past weekend. He added a pretty inspirational blog post about it on his blog. Check it out:
Thanks to the Boulder Triathlon club I now have a list of good bike rides out in Boulder:
I am really stoked to find this, because it is difficult finding beta on good rides in Boulder, despite the fact that it is the most “bicycle friendly city” in the US.
